Our desire for a natural birth at home led to our retaining the most exceptional midwife in Elke, who soon introduced us to her colleague Jacqui. Their care was complete and special to us as a family, as I expect their care will have been to many more families. I would highly recommend their services not only for their vast knowledge of the birthing process, but also for their sensitivity in understanding our needs, aspirations and, most importantly, our philosophy of birth. We were encouraged and consulted on every aspect of the process, which I think is extremely important.

Elke and Jacqui have special and unique powers that seemed to compliment each other perfectly. They give expert guidance in the various stages during the natural birthing process, complimented by their understanding of a variety of therapies including homeopathy, use of essential oils, massage, muscle relaxing, breathing, meditative time, exercise, and nutrition. Their sensitivity in providing much needed private time to relax alone were wonderful and remain deeply appreciated.

The duration of my labour at home was a creative and imaginative experience, interspersed by highs and lows. The motivation and encouragement that I got gave me the determination to stay the course, and focus primarily on getting through the various stages. All labours are unique. After some time in labour we went to hospital as a precaution and I was advised by a consultant to undergo an emergency c-section, which I did. All through this difficult time I was unbelievably well consulted and supported and I didn't feel a sense of failure that my plans had changed. The process of the labour up to the point that we decided to go to hospital had been an amazing time of working, engaging, visualising, learning and dreaming of the life waiting to meet us.

Having Elke present for the birth with the understanding of our expectations was a greats source of comfort. I cannot begin to describe the support a woman requires at this stage, especially in hospital. Elke's assertiveness in arranging for my baby to be brought to me right after delivery and her guidance in achieving an immediate latching on was invaluable. It was such a positive experience that despite difficult circumstances we felt our care enhanced not only our understanding and experience of the birth, but also facilitated us forming an immediate and wonderfully powerful bond with our baby.

The post natal care I received was exemplary and exceptionally valuable. Not only for monitoring the health and well being of the myself, but for the care and guidance with breastfeeding and the early development of our baby.

That baby is Uma, our happy healthy and energetic 6 month old. She is our love. Elke, our referral to you was indeed good fortune.
